Simultaneous Use Policy

Simultaneous Use is simply the use of one username to establish more than one telephone connection to the Shentel Internet modems at the same time. The "username" is also known as the "main log-in name" or "main account name".

As stated in our Acceptable Use Policy Shentel users should only make one dial-in connection to the Internet at a time. There is an additional hourly charge for an account that has Simultaneous Use.

Effective as of Nov. 15, 1999, we have implemented the following pricing plan for simultaneous use.

If a user logs on with a username that is already in use, all overlapping sessions will be billed to the account holder with that username, at a rate of $1 per hour, pro-rated to the nearest second. Simultaneous use charges apply to all Internet plans.

Overusage charges can apply to all accounts except for Unlimited accounts. If you use more hours in a month than the plan allows, you are charged $1 per hour for the additional hours, pro-rated to the nearest second. For hours in which both simultaneous and overusage charges apply, you will be billed $1 per hour.

For example, suppose you are connected to Shentel Internet via your telephone line and at the same time, someone else uses your username to establish a 90-minute session with Shentel Internet via another telephone line. You will be billed $1.50 for this overlapping session. Another example: you are connected to Shentel Internet when two other people each use your username to establish two 60 minute sessions; you will be billed for 2 times 1 hour or $2.00.

As an alternative to simultaneous use charges, it may be more economical to establish a second or third account rather than pay for overlapping sessions on a single username at $1 per hour.

To set-up a new account, please use our on-line New Service Application Form. When completing this form, in the "Remarks/Special Instructions" box at the bottom, please include the username of your existing account and billing name so we can add the charges for the new account.
